1920s. Vietnam under colonial French ruling. Anti-French rebellions emerge all over the country to disrupt the foreign occupiers. In respond, the colonialist employed units of Vietnamese agents to track and destroy these rebels. The film follows the journey of LE VAN CUONG, a French cultured undercover elite. Although branded with a perfect track record, Cuong's inner conscience is troubled by the sea of Vietnamese blood he had spilled to uphold a French washed ideal. Following an assassination of a high ranking French, Cuong is assigned to seek and kill the notorious leader of the resistance. Cuong encounters VO THANH THUY, a relentless revolutionary fighter and the daughter of the rebel leader. Cuong's superior intends for him to use Thuy as a mean to get to her father but Cuong soon has feelings for her. Thuy's patriotism ignites conflicts between Cuong's consciousness and his cultured faith…

I am Italian and I saw this movie in original version with English subtitles. action could be better, but it’s not so bad, the main characters are well acted. One of the best part of the film is the battle: the Vovinam martial art is used, Vietnamese art, of course. The fight scene is full of realism and action, very good I think. The conversations are very good, nothing to say. Another point is the scenic beauty of the country Vietnam. I think it’s a good film, great fight and realistic. The plot is simple but well done, suspense, romance, action … I hope that will happen in Italy or in Europe, at least :)

I’m Vietnamese and half and a fan of Johnny Nguyen. I am looking for a very good Vietnamese film and I found “The Rebel”. I was blown away. Johnny Nguyen gave an excellent performance in this film, and Ngo Thanh Van, and showed his true abilities both an actor and a martial artist. Between fast paced action sequences (which specialize in the martial art of Vietnamese “Vovinam”) and powerful emotional scenes that represent the struggles of Vietnam during the French colonial domination, this film certainly delivers a punch.
(Fun Fact: Johnny Nguyen, Dustin Nguyen and Ngo Thanh Van their entire voice dubbed in English on DVD 2-Disc).

Actually, when I saw this movie, I was so anxious and surprising, because I do not think you can do a great job like this. After watching the film, I decided to go back to see it again, again, again and again (13 times in total …) but I felt like I was always exciting, and came to see him until the day on which the film change hehehe another film. I love this movie so much because I’m a fan of action movies. I like the script, I was moved and surprised when I heard the script, so brilliant, intelligent, true, this film is the work of other films before he could make a good screenplay. there is no need to say about the action, wonderful. the action scenes were so realistic, heavy and hard. I admired Ngo Thanh Van as he did a good job even though she had little ‘history in martial arts. nice player. Overall, this is the best movie I’ve ever seen. 2 thumbs up!

The most expensive film ever Vietnamese (it costs $ 3 million to make – probably the budget lunch Rambo Stallone) is the overwhelming action / romance ably led by Nguyen of Vietnam / American director Charlie. The early history of the rebellion against the French colonialists in 1922 and follows a family, but nice. However, if you are a fan of martial arts, the film will be of particular interest for its action scenes are characterized by excellent little known Vietnamese martial art, Vo Thuat. Initially based in the north of Chinese Wushu (Chinese were the first superpower to invade the earth unfortunate), Vietnamese martial arts system developed by incorporating elements of fighting styles from neighboring countries. For many centuries it has been the main form of defense for these people because their invaders (Chinese, French, Japanese) has stripped them of all weapons. Johnnie Nguyen led both beautiful and actor / singer / model Vo Thanh Thuy are experienced professionals with style and skill is evident in the film. Dustin Nguyen (no relation, one person in two is called Nguyen in Vietnam) is a villain worthy of their expertise in various Asian styles.
A must for fans of martial arts. It will also be appreciated by those who love the overwhelming action / romance.

The Rebel is a slam-bang martial arts romp that has almost everything you would want in a truly cinematic experience. The excitement, romance, escapes, betrayal and more stuck around just over an hour and a half stimulation dramatically. Situated in the context of colonization rarely used in France in Vietnam, the film starts almost immediately with a murder SETPIECE chaotic and not leave it there. The characters are believable and I gave a cheer for them for the duration of the film. Part of the action is so fast and so well choreographed that you’d swear these guys fight crazy for realsies. If you’re looking for your daily dose of action, look no further than the Rebel.
